The Reason We Run

There are many places in the Bible that reference to running the race and our journey through life. Let me tell you from personal experience, it takes courage and intent to run. It’s not just something that happens as you “walk through life,” it is a conscience decision to lay down our will for his, and to run with all our might.

I love how it talks specifically in Hebrews 12:1-2 about how we can look to Jesus for our encouragement. “… Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (NKJV)

Jesus, had a joy set before him. And it was bigger than His desire to pluck Himself out of suffering. It was bigger than just getting to Heaven. What was one of the greatest joys set before Him?

It was you!

The will and reward of God was that we might be one with Him and know him. You were and are still His prize. He was determined to see that veil that kept us separated, was torn to shreds. He endured the cross for you, His beloved. And Jesus will be receiving His reward from now until the day of His return.

So why do we run? Is it to drudge our way though our difficulties? Is it just to get by long enough to make it to heaven? Or do we choose THIS DAY to run with all our might as we ascend the never-ending mountain of the Lord. He has cleared the way for you and endured intense suffering to make it so. And it was His joy to do so.

So, shake off the mundane of this Monday, and RUN. Today is another gift, another opportunity to know Him, and a beautiful day to be amazed by the Creator of all things, and the One who now sits at the right hand of the throne of God.
